Bob Uecker will be honored this summer with a statue placed outside of Miller Park
This location for the statue is a mistake.
How did Uecker go from non-descript backup catcher to comic personality? Was he just a pretty funny guy in interviews a lot? I'm wondering how Gerald Laird gets to host a wacky sitcom.
Announcing aside, Uecker deserves this statue for his role in Mr. Belvedere alone!
The biggest thrill a ballplayer can have is when your son takes after you. That happened when my Bobby was in his championship Little League game. He really showed me something. Struck out three times. Made an error that lost the game. Parents were throwing things at our car and swearing at us as we drove off. Gosh, I was proud.
He's not objective either, which is to say one can tell he's pro-Brewers.
I'm sure he stole it but he's a regular with the "I never had a problem handling a knuckleball ... I'd just wait for it to stop rolling" line.
Just as long as the statue doesn't show him melting a la the Wicked Witch like the Harry Caray statue.
Dead Freaking Last) Those idiots who work for the Yankees. They're terrible.
chicken catcher Torre
We're awarding you a Primey, just so we can revoke it.
Yeah, Walding. Does the other crew do radio? I can give Cone and Leiter a shot.
Uecker is one of my favorites. I think he was doing one of those "using your" sausage spots and he started talking about grilling and how you could go to the store and pull off the pricing labels from cheaper items and stick them on the big bags of charcoal. Totally dead-panned. Never said "just kidding."
