Pujols will not only have to show that the statements were false, he'll also have to show they were made with actual malice.
He (Dale Murphy) has to take a back seat to these creeps and lowlifes like (Mark) McGwire.
If Roger Clemens hadn't sued, his reputation would have taken an irreparable hit from the media.
Now, let's switch out Pujols with McGwire. If McGwire had never tested positive or admitted he used, would a suit by McGwire against Clark have legs? It seems like the "creeps and lowlifes" wording could be construed as malicious. No?
Gee, if you ask me, it took a way bigger hit than if he had just denied it and done nothing else. For instance, the Mindy McCready story may never have surfaced.
But in all other situations, he always tells the truth.
