Shea truly was a dump … and I ended up kind of liking it.
New Yankee Stadium is the lowest ranked of current stadiums.
the food and beer choices are unimpressive
Rogers Centre has improved, since Rogers actually bought the place. They've spent some money to spruce it up, and to improve the food. It's still not great by any means, but it's a hell of a lot better than it was in the early 2000s.
Target Field really does have it all. $5 parking, plenty of restaurants nearby, great views. If only the team were better or the tickets were cheaper
Turner Field worse than Shea?
But the day I went, an older gentleman and I spent a solid three innings talking about the first game he ever attended as a kid: a thriller at old Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, in which Jackie Robinson stole home. We could have been seated in a nuclear waste treatment plant and it still would have been an enjoyable afternoon. Shea truly was a dump … and I ended up kind of liking it.
Turner Field: I remember walking around its lower deck wheel of commerce and noticing something different compared to most ballparks - and not the good kind of different. In a lot of newer stadiums when you walk around the wheel of commerce behind the lower deck seats, you can see the field. You just look over the seats and there's the field. At Atlanta, you couldn't do that. Concrete in the way, and it only opened up for the aisles. You were more likely to see wide open spaces on the other side, pointing to the exits. It felt like the stadium was pointed the wrong way - toward the exit instead of the excitement.
At Turner the aisle was the "middle" of the section. Seat #1 in the section was in the middle of the seats next to the last seat in the other section. Confusing as hell that you can have 4 seats right next to each other but be "seated" in different sections. Alternately you could have four seats in a section that are numbered one right after the other but are split by the aisle.
convenient, cheap, and smoked meat
Olympic was an absolute dump but... convenient, cheap, and smoked meat. My kind of place...
