Before and after he must be not gettting to 50 balls a year which must be worth about 20 runs. Plus he makes a lot of errors, or so it seems, probably another 5 runs there. The ability to start a DP is probably under reported in the stats (because you only get one assist when you start a DP) but I bet he probably was involved in less DP than your average SS, but I haven't looked.
BBREF gives Jeter -234 fielding runs over 2500 games, if Vaughn was as bad -140 over his 1500 games at SS, he's still an easy HOFer
3-10. (roughly chronological) Jeter, Larkin, Ozzie, Trammell, Yount, Vaughan, George Davis.
I might bump somebody for A-Rod on pure peak, but his career as a SS wasn't long enough.
He decides that Hornsby should be downgraded on the basis of those trades at that mid point of his career.
Vaughan and Yount had only 200 more games at SS than ARod, and Davis 100 more. ARod had 63 WAR as a SS, Yount 50.
