So maybe it wasn't particularly nice of me to say Friday night on Twitter that Chipper Jones, who has never tested positive for steroids and who has cheated on his wife with a Hooters waitress, should "go do some adultery and steroids" in response to Jones' relatively innocuous suggestion on Twitter that Kansas guard Elijah Johnson ought not have punched Michigan center Mitch McGary in the testicles
Reading the excerpt (and that's all I'm doing) it looks like both this guy and Chipper were juvenile jackasses.
That's some stones, to write an article about how you got yours but you're the victim.
I propose that Chipper punch this fool in the nuts and we be done with this.
But I guess what I’m saying, after Chipper Jones went on an hours-long invective jag against me—my literacy and my jealousy, my height, my (lack of) hair, my weight, the appearance of my fiancée (a professional sportswriter, no less) and my sexuality
I'm not bothering to read any of this unless it confirms and deepens my (completely rational!) hatred of Chipper Jones, The Worst Human Being on the Planet.
Always enjoy the 'Hey, I thought you dudes were supposed to turn the other cheek' take. Nope. Jesus had a few words stronger than 'You guys need to get it together' for the Pharisees back in the day. Returning fire is allowed.
This doesn't make me think less of Chipper Jones. There is some kind of failure involved in that, I think.
There are dozen of examples of Jesus and his disciples pushing back against unjust charges or prosecution. Read up a little and then come sit at the adult table.
Short-term at least. 3rd (or 4th or 5th) banana on a show to the star is a big step up. And he was highly sought after. I may be remembering wrong, but I think he left for one of the bigger contracts in TV. (nothing on his Wiki page) In the long run, I'm sure collecting even more MASH residuals would have meant a lot more money.
I guess as long as the Ayn Rand worshippers use this sort of Skeletor-style rhetoric in their discourse with the rest of us puny mortals, we don't have to worry about too many normal people joining their cause.
Who else is in the McLean Stevenson HOF? Shelley Long. David Caruso. Shannen Doherty. Others?
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'it belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'it belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'it belongs to everyone.'
A fifty-something man writing at length about how he was "bullied" via Twitter. I already thought the word "bullying" had become something near meaningless, but now I'm fairly sure it is.
Right. Bullying only exists when it's a max small group of real live dudes flossin', shoving, and poking like the kids from Cobra Kai. Eff it when a man with 260,000 people following his words decides to call you fat, bald, and your wife fat and ugly. At least Gaines' original ####### tweet was specific to only Chipper.
I remember none at all, but I can't begin to calculate the hours I've spent watching "Match Game." The smarmy satisfaction Stevenson (and Gary Burghoff) exuded as they basked in what they perceived as their own incomparable wit was truly painful to behold. That, and Patti LOOKATMELOOKATMEI'MWEIRD Deutsch, who never met a "The dog chased the BLANK" question she wouldn't answer with "nuclear submarine" or "Mormon Tabernacle Choir."
What did Farrah Fawcett walk away from?
Dan Stevens? Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje? (though I don't think he left Lost anticipating a career as a star) Katherine Heigl!
There's the opposite side of the coin, where a show for some reason soldiers on after the exit of a star (Steve Carell and the Office, seemingly the entire cast of That 70s Show).
Lately I've been catching up with the Office (one of my all-time favourite shows, but my interest petered out some time during season 4-5 and I haven't kept up to date at all). I've just finished watching season 7, and was following along reading the episode blogs on the AV Club. I missed it at the time, but I guess the speculation of who was going to fill Michael Scott's job, and the news/gossip reports on which actors had signed what deal to appear on the show really dominated discussion. As a television viewer I don't think I'd want to know all that stuff. It detracts from my ability to delve into the universe of the show. I suppose maybe I sound like a baseball fan that doesn't want to hear about contract extensions/negotiations, but I'd rather just form a relationship with the show itself and ignore all non-canon elements.
Oh yeah, I suppose the one big McLean Stevenson club member I forgot was Claire Danes in My So Called Life.
But this isn't about him, it's about Chipper.
You all fail for not putting Denise Crosby in this thread. She is inner-circle McLean Stevenson HOF.

@74: agree with you in most cases, but the internal doings with the Firefly cast made for a pleasant hour's research. That they all loved the show, kept all sorts of memorabilia, and would love to do it again if the opportunity arises adds to the show's luster for me.

Chipper was actually anti-nut-punching in this case.
Given that roster, I assume it was a comic-con or the like...? That's too bad, about Williams. I suppose he's into his 70s.
btw, can anyone tell me what I missed with the Sopranos? We had a falling out midway through the first season. My gf did too. Tony's feelings about the ducks in his swimming pool made me think this was going to be an interesting show, but then it quickly turned into conventional, gangster soap opera, \"#### this", \"#### that"... Anyone else feel this way?
