I like the deal, but I hope they're looking for two more outfielders. Young (or Lagares) in a corner is one more spot without an above average bat.
which is better than the mooks the Mets had in the outfield going into last Opening Day
the price probably wasn't crazy if he agreed to a one-year deal.
He's young, he has good tools, he's been productive in the not-too-distant past, and the price probably wasn't crazy if he agreed to a one-year deal.
SEVEN POINT FIVE MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!
Very poor corner OF bat.
SEVEN POINT FIVE MILLION DOLLARS!!!!! HE'S BEING PAID FOR BEING A PROSPECT EIGHT YEARS AGO!!!! ARBITOL IS LOSIN IT!!!!!
Because defense doesn't matter in the corners.
$7.5M is the price of what, about one and a half marginal wins? Young was a five-win player as recently as 2011. He should be able to turn in a two-win season with his eyes closed.

Take it from a Pirates fan - having two CFs in the same outfield has its advantages.
Makes sense. He's young, he has good tools, he's been productive in the not-too-distant past

The numbers may say this is a reasonable signing, $7.5mm for Chris Young but I think the Mets won't get their moneys worth.
His BA, SB, BB, and OPS+ trends don't paint a pretty picture.
He's only done this in three of his seven MLB seasons.
He may be Young but he's no longer young at 30.
Tool time is over. After 7 years in the Majors it's performance that counts. He hasn't been good and Citi Field won't be kind.
Your rearview mirror is kinder than mine. His last productive year was his 27 year old sesaon and he hasn't been good since. 25% K rate doesn't match up with the declining slugging.
Looking at this from the players perspective, this makes no sense to me. Why sign a 1 yr deal to try to rebuild value in a place that is not conducive to your skill set. Yes,…big outfield , good outfielder…yada yada….but they pay for the homers.
