MJ raised some eyebrows today when asked to pick a squad to play any other. So he picked Akeem, Worthy, Pippen and Magic to play with himself. ESPN asked Avery Johnson to challenge that and he picked LeBron, Kobe, Bird, Duncan and Kareem.
I think Avery wins. Couple of homer picks by MJ there.
In Melo's defense, he's played quite well - and thrived - on USA basketball and under Coach K. Thibs is an assistant on that team now (Boeheim, too). Boozer plays less defense that Melo ever has and he's never had a problem with Thibs.
I didn't think the Howard/Asik pair would work, but I never anticipated this. Morey has to be burning up the phone lines trying to work a deal for him.
At this point I'd be more comfortable pointing the finger at Wittman. If you can't finish around .500 in this terrible conference with Gortat/Nene/Beal/Wall/Ariza/Webster/Harrington, then I don't know what to tell you. That's (obviously) not a Finals contender, or even a contender to get out of the 1st round, but that rotation is, to me, clearly better than Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, and the other contenders for the 7th and 8th spots.
A 2-6 record is about what you'd expect from a .500-ish team given their schedule so far.
Is Kidd a big part of the early problems?
He gets an F. He gets a 0. My wife could coach a team to a 29th ranking for that team. She doesn't know much about basketball. He just... his guys, I don't think they have any purpose and passion to what they're doing. I think they're discombobulated. Listen, Henry, he was an amazing player, one of my favorite of all time for a lot of different reasons, but our profession is different from his profession, and to assume that that transition is easy, it's a short bridge, is crazy. He has a long way to go to figure this out. Do I think he'll be better? Will they be better? It seems very likely. But as he's currently doing, he's the worst coach in the NBA.
Has Garnett suddenly hit the wall? Is this thing going to be a massive disaster for Prokhorov? Is Kidd a big part of the early problems?
I'd seriously expect something like half the league to at least take a look at Asik. I don't want to oversell him, he's not a franchise-changer, but he's a guy who can start at center for a good team, isn't he?
Speaks for itself
It's been enough games, and it is really looking like Boris Diaw is a changed player w/r/t attacking and taking open shots. He is pulling the trigger on 3pt attempts and is having his best season to date.
David Thorpe sure thinks so
Ziller proposes trading Jimmer and Jason Thompson for Asik.
this is...light on specifics
The Knicks' suck. I'm tired of defending Carmelo. If they just would have targeted him and LeBron with their cap space (with a preference for LeBron, of course) this whole franchise would have been different. LeBron passed, you wait for Carmelo. But no..... they just had to have Stat. They had to make a move. It's the story of this ####### team under Dolan. Never do you say to yourself, "Man, the Knicks handled that one well." Never, never.
Did he guarantee a win this time? Look what happened.
Asik glued to the bench again. This can't last much longer.
Cousins for Gay and Asik doesn't make any sense for Sacramento. I don't think there is any reason to trade Cousins at this point. Ziller proposes trading Jimmer and Jason Thompson for Asik. I would support that seeing as the former two are useless players, but I don't know why Houston would be interested.
I think 5 years was obviously not going to happen, but it's conceivable they could have gotten, say, 3 good years out of Stoudemire. And, man, did he look good when he first got to the Knicks. Not like young buck Stoudemire good but like a real NBA player, which I think gave those Knicks a total of one.
Larry coon just tweeted that he thinks teams should have the option of turning down FTA in favor of retaining possession
I think there was at least a little bad luck involved with Amar'e and his knees breaking down. Now, the fact that the Suns' incredible medical staff was unwilling to sign off on a five-year deal for Amar'e is troublesome
If the worst case for the Knicks come true at this point, that they completely suck and Melo leaves, that leaves a disaster of a roster which makes the current Laker situation look fabulous in comparison.
