Still, from my perspective, he seems a very unusual candidate to choose as the epitome of poor throwing.
Anyway, it must have been 2007 (my lord time flies), Melky showed the most impressive arm I'd seen since Jesse Barfield.
In 2009, Angels ALCS game 3 was a walkoff win against the Yankees. Jeff Mathis doubled and Howie Kendrick came around to score from first. It was not a close play, but Melky fielded the ball on the warning track, and threw it near home plate on the fly. It was a damn impressive throw.
Melky had a throw the other day, that made it's way round as a gif, where he lost his grip on the ball mid-throw, and it went about 3 feet. I doubt the OP was alluding to much more than that.
