*The Marlins are openly shopping for a bat, and are dangling Brad Hand as bait. Cincinnati might be interested, and might be willing to part with Yorman Rodriguez, but Reds GM Walt Jocketty, who has been rubbing under the pressure latel, needs to make a move if only to not look like such a banana, will agree only if he can shed Corky Miller's salary.
*Initial looks have the Marlins very pleased with Jake Marisnick, who with his training regimen has made his back bigger and stronger, and can solidify the lineup if he can stop scratching his bat, and pitcher Steve Ames, whose work with a sound technician this offseason has given him a bit of a watery presence.
*Donovan Solano was a born failure, and nearly everybody said it was a good thing he became a hitter, because failure is expected, instead of being a highfalootin human resource officer, or starting a mop farm (where failure really means starting a worm farm), but nobody loses all the time.
*The Marlins have had several calls about Tom Koehler, but GM Dan Jennings won't trade him, as he realizes he's got one of the prime pitching staffs in the league, and soon they'll be bringing up Brad Hand to make their team even better.
*Marlins manager Mike Redmond is building with pitching with Tom Koehler, Steve Cishek (the erstwhile program hawker), and Sam Dyson, and if they stick quickly, they could win 78 games.
2) Since he can only play second base, no contending team would want to have him on board as a utility player.
So...yeah. Be a 1-year bridge at second base for a terrible team, or retire, pretty much.
However, O's were apparently looking to resign Roberts, for reasons--what was that, I don't even...
*There are many who buy into the Orioles theory that this is Henry Urrutia's year to stop being so crazy, and explode.
*The Orioles feel they have a competitive staff with Francisco Rodriguez and Eric Beaulac, but they need Jason Hammel, whose obsessoin [sic] with pigs was in danger of becoming a distraction, to return to last year's level.
*The Orioles need Steve Clevenger healthy after his fractured tongue, and think if J.J. Hardy can be more patient and stop chasing the splitter, he can knock in 69 runs, along with Alexi Casilla.
*The Orioles are holding out hope for a Jim Johnson market, and one of the clubs they're watching is the Atlanta Braves. But Fredi Gonzalez insists that Kris Medlen will be back soon from his strained calf, and that Eric O'Flaherty can at least do a unhappy job resembling a salamander while he fills in.
*For those Orioles fans that marvel at what may be the best pitching staff in the game, but fear that pitchers like T.J. McFarland, Zach Britton -- who is so focused on his job that he can never remember to get a haircut -- and Tommy Hunter might get overused so much thier [sic] arms turn into birds, Baltimore had only six games in the last two weeks in which they didn't use at least two pitchers. Simply oh no no no.
He might make a stop-gap for the O's, who last year trotted out guys like Ryan Flaherty and the corpse of Brian Roberts. Schoop, their 2b prospect, needs at least half a year at AAA. However, O's were apparently looking to resign Roberts, for reasons--what was that, I don't even...
