they also didn't select Walker Zimmerman for some reason.
Cavani is officially on the move to Chelsea.
Smaller clubs should have the opportunity to profit more off of young players that break out playing for their team.
Heh! Thorgan Hazard is getting rave reviews from his loan spell in Belgium. I wonder if he'll be moving on as well to get first team action in a bigger league.
Last year the only players Chelsea sent out on loan were Courtois, De Bruyne, Lukaku, Piazo, Benayoun, Essien, Kakuta, Affane, Ashton, Bamford, Bruma, Chalobah, Billy Clifford, Conor Clifford, Dávila, Delac, Gordon, Thorgan Hazard, Hutchinson, Ince, Kalas, Kane, Lalkovic, McEachran, Nkumu, Omeruo, Osmanovic, Pirez, van Aanholt, Walker, and Wallace.
Oh yeah, and Spurs are playing a friendly at Monaco this summer. I hope their crazy Russian oligarch paid enough to pay for Villa's wages for the privilege of having the mighty Hotspur in his little stadium.
I'm not picking on Chelsea - all the big teams do it, its just that Chelsea's players have a higher profile and they've seem to gone a bit overboard. Roman has spread his millions all over Europe and South America so other clubs are getting paid. Its one thing if Ajax or Porto do it. They're buying players, developing them and then selling them. Chelsea is buying players, letting some other team develop them and then maybe selling them.
I'm guessing that Silvio's prison experience would be something like this.
Those rumors are weird, first it was Defoe, and then Villa was supposed to take Adebayor. I don't see the attraction for either Adebayor or Villa. I mean, if they want to splurge on Adebayor-sized wages, there are plenty of other, less risky players to bid on.
I think a way that at least England could cope with this is setting up a system similar to La Liga where Chelsea can have a B team competing in the Championship. It's likely that a player like Courtouis would still be in some top side, but most of those players mentioned would be better off competing for Chelsea Castilla against Sheffield.
Newcastle for sale?
Any Sunderland fans here? Opinions on Mignolet?
Anyone else think City will regret losing Tevez?
Tevez is a great player, and you can never have too many great players. I think they have similar players already, though, so I don't think it will hurt them too much.
I'd say it makes sense to sell Tevez now rather than in a couple years when he's worn down, but apparently City are only getting £8m plus escalators. So that's not it.
I wrote up a piece for CFC about football and component stats. Basically, I'm arguing that goals scored per shot on target, especially at the club level, is sort of like BABIP for pitchers in baseball. There are very important, real differences in skill between players and between clubs, but this variation is swamped by random variation over a sample of just a single season. (G/SoT for defenses is sort of like BABIP for hitters, it's a more useful stat that nonetheless is subject to wide swings by random variation.)
