The White Sox haven't won a World Series since they dismantled Joe Borchard.
What is there to dismantle? Apart from a handful of pitchers and Alex Rios, I see a roster full of guys nobody would want.
What could they really hope to get in a trade for Viciedo or Gillaspie?
You'd think that Alexi Ramirez could fetch the proverbial live arm, but he's owed $21.5 million after this year. He has positive value (slightly above average with the glove, above replacement with the bat), but isn't worth anything like his salary. Whatever they'd get back probably isn't worth eating $12 million or whatever it would have to be.
De Aza might fetch a few table scraps. I think he's on the verge of turning into a pumpkin -- he's 29, has never played 140 games, is trending downwards, and doesn't have any one skill to prop his value up if the BA goes. He looks like a guy who's a useful major leaguer at his peak, and his peak is just about over. I'd get the table scraps now.
I think he's the Maitre D' at Chez Paul.
