Tanaka was brilliant for the Rakuten Golden Eagles last season, going 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA.
“If I was him, I would pitch in the National League,” Valentine told the New York Post. “I would pitch on the West Coast and I would pitch where the weather isn’t going to be a factor.”
Anyway, is there any longer a reason to give Valentine's opinion on Japanese players a lot of weight? Hasn't he been gone from Japan since before Tanaka's career started? Is there any reason to think he knows more than anyone else about Tanaka at this point?
Why didn't he just come out and say Tanaka should pitch for the Dodgers?
Arizona equally fulfills Valentine's suggested rules.
James wrote that baseball people discounted Dick Stuart's 66 (is that right?) HRs in the minors because they couldn't comprehend it. so they'd rave about guys who hit 35 or 40 but then get to Stuart and launch into explanations of why it wasn't that impressive.
20-4 sounds awesome. 24-0 sounds like something is off. Even though in reality it is more impressive.
Am I the first person on this website to realize that Tanaka went 24-0 last season?
I've already heard people claiming nobody should get too excited, he doesn't have Darvish's stuff, he'll be a number three in America. That could be all completely true, but that unimpressive stuff might be Madduxian instead.
