It never occurred to Overbay before now that learning to be not-awful in the OF would help his job prospects?
Overbay could show he's really serious by playing the middle infield and at catcher, where his lefthandedness would make him a rare commodity.
Although I don't really understand demoting Boesch when you need OFs so badly that you're converting a 1B into one.
Overbay looked totally done when he was with the Pirates in 2011. It blows my mind that he's in the majors, and not doing horribly at that.
Wow, I guess I must have never payed attention to Overbay before. I never imagined that he was always a first baseman - this is the first he's played anywhere but first. I had an image of him in my mind as one of those "somewhat decent but not great hitter while in his prime playing corner outfield barely adequately" turned "aging borderline hitter who has a job due to VETERAN LEADERSHIP relegated to first base because there's no where else to put him" types.
