Mariano Rivera, the legendary closer of the New York Yankees who retired last month, was honored at MetLife Stadium prior to the start of the Giants' game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Rivera joked that he enjoyed his farewell tour around the American League so much, he's going to come back next season and try the NL.
If you're giving an award for achievement in the field of excellence a guy almost universally regarded as the best ever* at his position seems to be the appropriate guy.
Just looking at the list of recipients Mariano fits in well with most of the other recipients as someone who set some kind of record.
