I think we’re reaching the point where “honoring” turns into “stalking…”
Further Rivera-worship = BAD
Increased attention for international baseball = GOOD
So it's a wash.
6) Rivera is one of the only great players of the Steroid Era that emerged without a whiff of suspicion or scandal.
Agree with #4. Playing exhibition games in different markets is such a common sense move that I wonder why teams don't do it more often.
Forget Rivera for a second; why wouldn't the Yankees have a couple of exhibition games in Panama every year? Heck, do a barnstorming tour through five or six Latin American countries.
On balance I agree, but don't sell short the logistical hassle (e.g., the visa process).
Next season, whenever Mariano's not onscreen, all the other players should be asking "Where's Mariano?"
And FWIW, Rod Carew National Baseball Stadium is nice enough.
